One favorite camping recipe that’s a go-to for my family is for Cheesy Tot Casserole. It’s so easy, and is a wonderful, warm comfort food that brings the family together. Grab this recipe below and get it into your cooking rotation whether you’re at home or on the road!
Cheesy Tot Casserole
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 white onion, diced
- 1 can Golden Mushroom soup
- 1 can French Onion soup
- 16 oz frozen tater tots
- Seasoning salt, to taste
- 16 oz shredded cheddar cheese
You’ll also need:
- Cutting board
- Sharp knife
- Large skillet
- Spatula
- Can opener
- 9×13 baking dish
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Combine the ground beef with the diced onion in the skillet. Brown the beef over medium heat, crumbling as you go, and cooking until the beef is browned thoroughly and the onions are translucent. Drain and discard the grease (do not put the grease down the drain!).
- Add both soups to the meat and onion mixture. Mix thoroughly by stirring gently.
- Spread the meat and soup mixture on the bottom of a 9×13 casserole dish. Evenly spread the frozen tater tots across the top, sprinkling lightly with seasoned salt.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tater tots are crispy and golden brown.
- Turn off oven heat. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tots, and slide the casserole back in the oven for 5 minutes to let the cheese melt.
- Remove from oven, and let stand for about 10 minutes before serving. It may be a bit soupy when serving if you don’t wait a few minutes!
This camping recipe comes together in about 5 minutes once the beef is browned and if you use a disposable aluminum dish, you’ll hardly have any clean up to do. It really couldn’t be easier!
